About April Fools

I took an African Music class in 2003 and was exposed to artists that I never would have heard otherwise. I was particularly enamored by the clean, bright electric guitar present in many Afro-pop songs. It was strikingly different from the oft-distorted and less-bright guitar sounds present in much of the music I was listening to at the time.

Several years later I must have had THAT sound ringing in my ears when I decided to plug in my Peavey and write April Fools. It's a playful song that you can bop to while driving to work or doing something else you enjoy.

If you want my recommendations of some artists I discovered, I regret to say that I'm going to have to leave you hanging. None of the songs made it into my regular rotation, but that is not to say they did not have a lasting impact on me. After all, I wouldn't be writing this otherwise.

I want to give credit where credit is due. There are some gifted musicians throughout Africa doing amazing things, things that aren't being done anywhere else. I'm sure you could find them easily with a quick internet search. Then you can recommend some artists to me.
